What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. WNBA Team Values Keep Climbing đ
Sportico released its latest WNBA valuations, and the average team is now worth $427 million, up 59% from last year. The Golden State Valkyries top the list at $850 million, while New York, Indiana, Seattle, and Phoenix round out the top five. (Sportico)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is one of the clearest signs of how much the league is growing. Golden State paid a $50 million expansion fee just three years ago, and that now looks like a smart bet with the team valued at more than 15 times that. It also shows where the league is strongest right now, with big markets and strong fanbases leading the way.

2. USA 3x3 Wins in Chengdu đĽ
Team USA won the first FIBA 3x3 Womenâs Series of the season in Chengdu, bouncing back after an early group play loss to Australia. The roster of Joyce Edwards, MiLaysia Fulwiley, Mikaylah Williams, and Sahara Williams closed it out with three straight close wins, including a 20â18 finish over Germany in the final. (FIBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: A loss in group play wasnât expected, but the group settled in quickly. Mikaylah Williams led the way and earned MVP honors, continuing to build her presence on the international stage. Itâs another step forward as the U.S. continues to invest in and strengthen its 3x3 program.

3. Sabrina Ionescuâs Ankle Injury to Watch đ
Sabrina Ionescu left Sundayâs preseason game after rolling her left ankle on a reverse layup. She was able to walk off on her own but didnât return, and an MRI is scheduled for Monday. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: This puts her availability for Fridayâs season opener in question. Ionescu is a central piece of the New York Liberty, especially as they adjust to a new offensive system under head coach Chris DeMarco. Thereâs also some history here, with a past procedure on that same ankle. For now, itâs a fingers crossed waiting game, but this is one to keep a close eye on heading into opening night.
