What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. WNBA Fans Want to Know the Players Behind the Game 📱

A new Mondo Metrics report found that WNBA team posts about players' birthdays and personal moments drew a median of about 1,200 engagements, compared with 358 for game highlights. The report looked at roughly 72,000 posts from all 15 teams during the 2026 regular season. (Sports Business Journal)

WHY IT MATTERS: Fans clearly enjoy getting to know the people behind the basketball. The Fever accounted for 82 of the league's 100 most popular team posts, and Dallas also stood out, generating 10% of leaguewide engagement with just 5% of the posts. It suggests that teams can build stronger connections with fans by thoughtfully sharing more personal stories about their players.

2. Five College Stars Get the Preseason Spotlight 🔦

Sarah Strong (UConn), JuJu Watkins (USC), Mikayla Blakes (Vanderbilt), Madison Booker (Texas), and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame) make up the AP Preseason All-America team. Strong received 30 of 31 votes, while Watkins returns to the list after missing last season with an ACL injury. (Associated Press)

WHY IT MATTERS: This list gives us an early look at the players expected to make a big impact this season. It'll be especially interesting to watch Watkins return to the court and see which players live up to the early expectations. Of course, once games actually begin, there's always room for someone new to surprise us.

3. Sandy Brondello Is Heading to Australia's Hall of Fame 🇦🇺

Sandy Brondello, the Toronto Tempo's head coach and a two-time WNBA championship-winning coach, will be inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame on November 24. (Australia Basketball)

WHY IT MATTERS: WNBA fans know Brondello as a coach, but she also helped put Australian women's basketball on the international map as a player. She was part of the Opals team that won Australia's first Olympic basketball medal in 1996 and earned two more Olympic medals before retiring. Now her playing career is getting some well-deserved recognition.

November's Post-Up Club Is About the People 💌

With the WNBA season wrapping up and Thanksgiving around the corner, I've been thinking about how grateful I am for the people I've connected with through women's basketball.

That's what inspired November's Post-Up Club issue. It's about appreciating the people who make being a fan of this sport so special.

Sunday, October 25 is the last day to join for November's mailing. I'd love to send you one!
