What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. WNBA All-Star Weekend Is Coming to the Bay 🌉
Ballhalla-Star weekend is coming. The WNBA announced Tuesday that the 2027 All-Star Weekend will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area on July 30 and 31. It will be the first time the Bay Area has hosted the event. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Golden State is only in its second season, but giving the Valkyries one of the league’s biggest events is no surprise. The team has sold out every home game since joining the WNBA, and the Bay Area has plenty of experience welcoming major sporting events, including the FIFA Men’s World Cup and Super Bowl LX earlier this year.

2. Meet the Tempo’s Two New Mascots 🐢🐰
Why stop at just one? The Toronto Tempo introduced their mascots on Tuesday, and yes, there are two of them. Dez is a Borealis Blue Snapping Turtle, while Dot is an Arctic Hare. (Toronto Tempo)
WHY IT MATTERS: Two complementary mascots is a fun approach we haven’t seen from a WNBA team in recent memory. The Tempo describe Dez as the more measured personality and Dot as the high-energy one. Dez also represents another step toward inclusivity in professional sports as a non-binary mascot who uses she/they pronouns.

3. Fever-Dream Draws 2.6 Million Viewers 📺
Another game, another record broken. Last Sunday’s Fever-Dream game on ESPN averaged 2.6 million viewers, peaking at 4 million viewers, making it the most-watched WNBA game ever on cable. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: The league’s momentum is not slowing down in the second half of the season. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese continue to be two of its biggest draws, but fans are tuning in across teams as well. The second game of Sunday’s doubleheader between the Mercury and Fire averaged another 1.4 million viewers. Through 25 games, WNBA broadcasts on ESPN networks are averaging 1.4 million viewers, up 16% from the same point last season.
🏀 Let’s Go Back to the WNBA in 2007
In 2007, Lauren Jackson put together a MVP season, draft night included a pair of wild trades, and the Phoenix Mercury won their first WNBA championship. Kim revisits all of it in the latest video in her series celebrating 30 years of the WNBA.
OVERTIME ⏱️

Speaking of CC: Clark and Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles were named the latest WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week.
Twenty Straight: Kelsey Mitchell scored 29 points in last night’s Fever win over the Tempo, giving her 20 straight games with at least 20 points. That ties the WNBA record set by A’ja Wilson.
