1. Vancouver Has Its Eyes on the WNBA đ¨đŚ
A group in Vancouver has publicly announced plans to pursue a WNBA expansion team, with hopes of submitting a $500 million CAD bid to the league within the next two to three years. The group is led by former Deloitte executive Bill Bakk and includes former Canadian Olympian Jodi Evans and longtime university basketball coach Kevin Hanson. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: The WNBA already has Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia joining through 2030, which will bring the league to 18 teams. Vancouver would give Canada a second team alongside the Toronto Tempo. Itâs worth nothing that the Tempo played two games at Vancouverâs 19,000-seat Rogers Arena earlier this season. Both drew strong crowds, but neither sold out.

2. Team USA Opens the U23 3x3 World Cup 2-0 đşđ¸
Team USA started the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup with wins over Japan, 16-14, and Slovenia, 21-8, on Thursday in Wuhan, China. The U.S. continues pool play today against Kenya and Australia and needs to finish first or second in its group to reach the quarterfinals. (USA Basketball)
WHY IT MATTERS: The roster features four Division I players: McKinna Brackens (ASU), Dani Carnegie (Iowa), Katie Fiso (Oregon), and Tori McKinney (Minnesota). The U23 team gives USA Basketball a chance to develop young 3x3 players who could eventually compete at the senior level. This group already has experience together after going 16-1 and winning the Nations League Americas North Conference in July to qualify for this World Cup.
3. Unrivaled Is Heading to Minneapolis đď¸
Unrivaled has added Minneapolis to its 2027 tour, with games scheduled for January 24 at Target Center. Itâs the fifth of eight tour cities announced so far, joining New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Detroit. (Unrivaled)

The league got a glimpse of what traveling could look like last season when more than 21,000 fans attended its game in Philadelphia.
