What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. UConn-Tennessee Is Moving Up the Calendar đď¸
UConn and Tennessee are adding a new home-and-home series, starting Saturday, Dec. 12 in Connecticut. The Huskies will make the return trip to Knoxville during the 2027-28 season. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is one of college basketballâs best-known rivalries, and the biggest change is when the teams will meet. Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell said last year that she wanted the matchup earlier in the season, and now sheâll get it. UConn holds an 18-10 edge in the series.

2. Paige Bueckers Gives Back to Her Childhood Court đ
Paige Bueckers donated $45,000 to help refurbish the basketball court at Blackstone Park in her hometown of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She stayed in town after the Wings played the Lynx on Sunday and surprised local kids at the courtâs unveiling. (CBS News Minnesota)

WHY IT MATTERS: Bueckers grew up practicing and playing on this same court, so this one is personal. The surprise was part of Gatoradeâs Day of Play event, which focused on encouraging more girls to play sports. Now the next group of kids in her hometown gets a better place to play.

3. Fever Add More Size With Mercedes Russell đŞ
The Indiana Fever have signed 6-foot-6 center Mercedes Russell. She most recently played 20 games for the Los Angeles Sparks this season. (Indiana Fever)
WHY IT MATTERS: The move comes after Damiris Dantas underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her left knee and was ruled out for the season. Russell gives Indiana another big body inside and brings plenty of experience. She spent seven seasons with Seattle from 2018 through 2024 and was part of two WNBA championship teams.
