What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. Tina Charles Retires From Basketball đ
Tina Charles announced her retirement on Tuesday, closing the book on one of the most accomplished careers womenâs basketball has ever seen. (Bleacher Report)
WHY IT MATTERS: Charles leaves the game as a surefire future Hall of Famer and one of the defining players of her era. Over 15 WNBA seasons, she became a No. 1 overall pick (2010), league MVP (2012), 8-time All-Star, and one of the most productive players in league history.
She retires second all-time in WNBA points scored, trailing only Diana Taurasi, while also holding the league records for total rebounds and field goals made. Add in two national championships at UConn and three Olympic gold medals, and itâs hard to overstate just how much she accomplished over her career.

2. WNBA Adds New Canadian Broadcast Partner đş
The WNBA announced a new Canadian media rights deal with Bell Media, bringing more league coverage to fans across Canada. TSN will air Toronto Tempo games along with additional marquee games and WNBA events including All-Star Weekend, the Playoffs, Finals, and Draft. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Media rights deals are one of the biggest revenue sources in sports, so this is an important step for the league as it continues to grow. It also gives Canadian fans a much easier way to follow the WNBA and Toronto Tempo.

3. WNBA GMs Reveal Their 2026 Predictions đ
The WNBA released its annual General Manager Survey on Tuesday, giving fans a look at how league executives see the upcoming season playing out. The anonymous poll covers everything from champ favorites and MVP predictions to best home court advantage.
WHY IT MATTERS: These surveys show how people inside the league view the current landscape. GMs picked the Las Vegas Aces to win the title, while Aâja Wilson was projected to win both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year (again). Paige Bueckers was the player GMs said they would most want to build a franchise around, Olivia Miles was the favorite for Rookie of the Year, and Golden State received the most votes for best home court advantage.

If youâre still looking for a Motherâs Day gift, might we suggest something a little different?
If your mom (or the mom figure in your life) loves womenâs basketball, The Post-Up Club is a monthly letter and a few small paper extras sheâll get in the mail. Something she can actually open, read, and come back to throughout the month.
Itâs the gift that keeps showing up.
