What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. The 2026 WNBA Season Is Here 🎉
Get the popcorn. The WNBA officially tips off its 30th season tonight with a three-game opening slate. Fans will get Connecticut Sun vs. New York Liberty, Washington Mystics vs. Toronto Tempo, and Golden State Valkyries vs. Seattle Storm as the league begins another 44-game season.
WHY IT MATTERS: Thirty seasons is a huge milestone for the league, but honestly, this feels like one of the most exciting moments yet. The WNBA is entering the year with a new labor deal, booming business momentum, and even more expansion with Portland and Toronto joining the league. Every team starts 0-0 tonight, and the championship picture feels wide open. Sit back and enjoy the ride this season.
🗳️ Will you be watching opening weekend

2. Roku Launches New WNBA Zone 📺
Here’s to less googling. Roku announced the launch of WNBA Zone, a new destination built with the league that brings live games, highlights, scores, and more into one consolidated place for fans using Roku TVs and devices. (Roku Newsroom)
WHY IT MATTERS: The WNBA first built its own League Pass app to create a similar experience because major tech companies were not focused on building these kinds of tools for W fans. Now, that’s changing. Roku becoming a major technology partner speaks to the kind of momentum the league is building with both fans and businesses. WNBA Zone will not air games directly, but it will show users which of their subscriptions has the game they want and take them right to it. Alongside League Pass (which isn’t going anywhere), it could make following the league much easier for fans this season.

3. USA 3x3 Hopes to Keep Rolling in Manila 🇺🇸
Team USA advanced to the knockout rounds of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series in Manila after going undefeated through pool play on Thursday. (USA Basketball)
WHY IT MATTERS: The U.S. has not won back-to-back Series stops since 2019, so there’s an opportunity here for this young group to do something special. They entered Manila seeded eighth, but they’re looking to prove that their title win in Chengdu was anything but a fluke. It’s another important moment as USA Basketball continues trying to grow its presence in 3x3 internationally.
