What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Nneka Delivers in Anniversary Classic 🤯
The WNBA's 30th anniversary celebration could not have asked for a better ending. Nneka Ogwumike knocked down a three-pointer on the buzzer to give the Los Angeles Sparks a dramatic 98-97 win over the New York Liberty after they trailed by as many as 17 points. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: This game was designed to honor the league's very first game, with the Sparks hosting the Liberty on the same date as their inaugural 1997 matchup. Lisa Leslie and Kym Hampton recreated the opening tip before a crowd of 18,043 fans, while legends from both franchises returned for the celebration. Then Sparks veteran Nneka Ogwumike gave fans a new memory, capping a comeback from a double-digit deficit with a game-winner worthy of the occasion.

2. Gabby Williams and Azzi Fudd Make Winter Plans 🤝
It’s only June and players are already making winter plans. Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams has signed a multiyear deal with Unrivaled, while Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd has signed with Project B. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: These are big stars committing to offseason leagues, and among the first to do so since the new WNBA CBA took effect. In the past, many players went overseas primarily for financial reasons. Now, it's not just about the money. For Williams, Unrivaled is a skills development opportunity, since it's known for its high level of All-Star talent. Fudd chose Project B for international playing experience. As players get more accustomed to the new CBA, it will be interesting to see how many continue to play year-round.

3. Angel Reese Already Has 1,000 Rebounds 👑
Angel Reese broke another record over the weekend, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds. Reese reached the mark in just 79 games, breaking the previous record by 10 games. (USA Today)
WHY IT MATTERS: Reese continues to prove she is one of the league's most consistent performers. Now in her third season and first with Atlanta, she is averaging a career-high 15.3 points and 11.9 rebounds. She also leads the league in both total rebounds and offensive rebounds per game. Reese is also tied with Jessica Shepard for the most double-doubles this season, showing that her impact travels no matter what uniform she is wearing.
