What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. The Valkyries Sold Out Every Home Game Again 💜
The Bay loves Ballhalla. For the second straight season, the Golden State Valkyries sold out every regular-season home game. They finished 2026 with 22 more sellouts, giving them 44 in 44 regular-season home games since the franchise debuted last year. (Golden State Valkyries)
WHY IT MATTERS: Golden State is the first WNBA team to sell out every home game in its first two seasons and the first to average more than 18,000 fans per game across a full season. And the fan base is still growing. The Valkyries went from 10,000 season ticket holders last year to more than 12,000 this year, and more than 90% have already renewed for 2027.
2. College Basketball Is Officially Back, Baby 🏀
The W is heading into the playoffs, but college hoops is just getting started. Monday marked the first official day of practice for the 2026-27 college basketball season, with teams across the country getting back in the gym.

WHY IT MATTERS: A new season means everyone starts at 0-0, and we get to see which new players emerge. It also means the return of familiar stars, including JuJu Watkins after missing last season while recovering from a torn ACL, and Hannah Hidalgo coming off another big year at Notre Dame.
3. Unrivaled Is Heading to Houston 🤠
Buckle up. Unrivaled added Houston to its Season 3 tour, with two games set for February 12 at Toyota Center. The league has now announced six of its eight tour stops: Boston, Detroit, Brooklyn, Minneapolis, Houston, and Philadelphia. (Unrivaled)
WHY IT MATTERS: This gives Houston fans a chance to see pro women’s basketball before the WNBA returns to the city next season. Houston has been without a WNBA team since the Comets folded in 2008, so the Unrivaled stop offers an early look at how much fan demand awaits before the Connecticut Sun move to Houston.
