What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. Liberty Look Like Contenders Again đ˝
Three weeks ago, the New York Liberty were 3-4 and looked nothing like the team many expected to compete for a championship. Now they've won seven straight games, haven't lost since May 25, and have already locked up a spot in the Commissioner's Cup Championship game. (SB Nation)
WHY IT MATTERS: The Liberty's slow start caught a lot of people by surprise. Missing players were a factor, but much of the roster remained intact from last season. As the team has adjusted to new head coach Chris DeMarco's system, things have started to click. Breanna Stewart is having an MVP-level season, Satou Sabally and Leonie Fiebich are back, and Sabrina Ionescu returned Sunday night. This is starting to look like the Liberty team many expected to see all along.

2. ESPN Is Following The Toronto Tempo đĽ
One of the WNBA's newest franchises is headed to ESPN. The network announced a four-episode original series called "Setting the Tempo" that will follow the Toronto Tempo as they prepare for their inaugural season. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: As interest in women's basketball continues to grow, more media companies are investing in telling these stories. Most WNBA documentaries have been short-form projects, so a four-part ESPN series is a notable commitment. It should also give us fans a much deeper look at how an expansion franchise is built, which is something than we typically donât get to see.

3. Team USA Wins Another U18 Gold đĽ
Team USA defeated Canada 90-72 on Monday to capture the 2026 FIBA U18 Womenâs AmeriCup title. The victory completed an undefeated tournament run for the Americans, and Jordyn Palmer was named the tournamentâs MVP. (USA Basketball)
WHY IT MATTERS: This group had plenty to live up to and delivered. The win marks Team USAâs 12th consecutive U18 Womenâs AmeriCup gold medal, extending one of the most impressive streaks in international basketball. So much talent continues to move through the USA Basketball system.

đłď¸ Poll Results from Yesterday: The Aces fooled most of us. We asked whether Las Vegas would clinch a Commissionerâs Cup Championship spot by Monday night, and 73% of you said yes. The Wings had other plans, and beat the Aces on Monday, so weâll have to wait until Wednesday to find out whether the Aces or Minnesota Lynx will represent the Western Conference.
