What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. The WNBA & WNBPA Met Face-to-Face 🤞

The WNBA and the WNBPA met in New York City on Monday for about three hours, with several players in the room alongside league and team executives. Around 40 additional players also joined the meeting remotely. While no deal came out of the session, union president Nneka Ogwumike said the focus was on walking through the thinking behind each side’s latest proposals. (ESPN)

WHY IT MATTERS: This meeting was about clarity. The league shared that it does not yet have a counterproposal, so the time was spent explaining priorities and giving context on both sides. That kind of extended, direct conversation has not always happened in past negotiations, and it’s a necessary step if real progress is going to happen.

2. Naismith Drops Midseason Top 10 for Point Guard of the Year 🎯

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame released its Midseason Top 10 candidates for the 2026 Point Guard of the Year Award, also known as the Nancy Lieberman Award. The list includes familiar names like Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Raven Johnson (South Carolina), Olivia Miles (TCU), and Rori Harmon (Texas), recognizing the best floor generals at the point this season.

WHY IT MATTERS: This group will be narrowed to five in mid-March, with finalists announced later before a winner is selected. The award comes with real history. Past winners include Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Sabrina Ionescu, Sue Bird, and Diana Taurasi. Making the Top 10 puts these point guards firmly in the conversation as some of the best of the best.

3. McDonald’s All Americans Are Set 🍔

The rosters for the 2026 McDonald’s All American girls’ game were announced on Monday, with 24 of the top 33 players in the 2026 class earning spots. The group is led by No. 1 recruit Saniyah Hall, who is currently committed to USC Trojans.

WHY IT MATTERS: The McDonald’s All American Game is one of the biggest stages in high school basketball and often the first national spotlight for future college and WNBA stars. This year’s class is stacked, and it gives us an early look at players who will shape the game over the next several years.
