What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Project B Is Offering $2M Salaries 💰
W, meet B. The new startup league, Project B, is reportedly offering WNBA players starting salaries around $2 million, along with signing bonuses and equity. That’s more than the WNBA’s new supermax under the latest CBA. (Front Office Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: That kind of money is getting attention and attracting top players. Vet Alanna Smith recently announced that she is joining the league, as did up-and-comers Awa Fam Thiam, and Justė Jocytė. At the same time, there are still big questions about how all of this will be funded and if the league will actually tip off. It’s exciting, but there are still unanswered important questions about the league.
🗳️ Do you think Project B has a chance of competing with the WNBA?

2. Tennessee Has Already Reloaded 🔁
That didn’t take long. Tennessee has added former five-star recruit, and Texas transfer, Aaliyah Moore as part of a massive roster overhaul. Head coach Kim Caldwell now has at least 14 new players committed after the entire roster turned over earlier this month. (Sports Illustrated)
WHY IT MATTERS: This could have gone the other way fast. Losing your entire roster use to mean a long rebuild, but Tennessee wasted no time, attacking the portal for a new crop of athletic competitors. If this group finds their chemistry, the Lady Vols could be back in the mix sooner than most expected.

3. Veteran Free Agents Still Waiting ⏳
Two well-known WNBA veterans remain unsigned late into the preseason, including Tina Charles and Natasha Cloud, signaling a challenge for experienced veterans under the new salary cap. (High Post Hoops)
WHY IT MATTERS: This could be the squeeze of the new CBA that some experts feared. Teams are already planning ahead for when younger stars come off rookie deals, and that’s tightening the market for role-playing vets right now. Players like Cloud and Charles still have a lot to offer, but they’re caught in a tough middle ground where they want deals that match their experience, while teams are reserving the big money for super star names. Cloud even hinted as much in a recent social media post. Here’s hoping that they are able to find new teams soon.
