What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Sparks Eliminated From Playoff Contention 🛑

It’s now or never for teams. The Los Angeles Sparks were the latest team eliminated from playoff contention with Thursday’s loss to Atlanta. With several teams able to clinch or be eliminated this weekend, the window is getting smaller for teams still trying to break into the top eight. (Silver Screen and Roll)

WHY IT MATTERS: The playoff picture could get even clearer before Monday. Indiana, for example, needs just one more win to clinch. Other teams could see their postseason hopes end over the weekend. There are still several weeks left in the regular season, but a sizable gap has opened between the top eight and the teams chasing them.

2. Clark and Mitchell Are an Offensive Force 🔥

This is when you want someone to catch a fever. Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have been on fire, giving Indiana one of the WNBA’s most dangerous backcourts this season as they are on the cusp of clinching a post-season spot. (Indiana Fever)

WHY IT MATTERS: These two are a powerful duo. Clark can find an open teammate and score from anywhere, while Mitchell’s speed and movement with and without the ball keep defenses scrambling. They have each scored 20+ points in the same game 16 times this season, breaking the previous record of 15 set by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter in 2008.

3. USA Finishes Third in Bordeaux 🇺🇸

USA finished third at the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series stop in Bordeaux after falling to Spain 17-14 in the semifinals. Spain went on to win its second Women’s Series title of 2026, with France finishing runner-up. (USA Basketball)

WHY IT MATTERS: The FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series is the top professional international circuit for women’s 3x3 basketball, with teams earning points at events throughout the summer before the title event in Shanghai. USA won its first two stops in Chengdu and Manila before finishing 10th in Tokyo and third in Bordeaux. While Team USA has dominated the 5-on-5 game for decades, there is still plenty of work for the Americans in the 3×3 format.

🧡🤍 Women’s Basketball Fans Are the Best

A Valkyries fan named Wendy surprised Kim at last night’s game with a stack of signed WNBA player cards she’s collected throughout the season. She gave them to share with Post-Up Club members, so she’ll be randomly tucking them into some of the September envelopes.

This is exactly what Kim hoped The Post-Up Club could become: a way for women’s basketball fans to feel a little more connected to each other. If you’d like to be part of the September issue, there are just a few days left to join.
