What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Unrivaled’s Philly Stop Was One for the Books 🏟️
Unrivaled made history at its first-ever tour stop, drawing 21,490 fans to Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. That’s the largest crowd ever for a regular-season women’s pro basketball game, and the biggest event the arena has ever hosted.
The league also announced $2 million in total revenue from Friday night, including $1 million in ticket sales and $400,000 from in-venue merchandise. (The Athletic)
WHY IT MATTERS: This was a real proof-of-concept moment. Philly showed up in a big way, which helps explain why the WNBA felt confident picking the city for a future expansion team in 2030. It’s also a good reminder that TV numbers don’t tell the full story. Even with some ups and downs in viewership for the 3-on-3 league, fans are clearly willing to show up, spend money, and support women’s pro basketball in person.

2. WNBA and Players Union Meet Face-to-Face Today in NYC 🤝
Let’s hope this helps bring things across the finish line. The WNBA and the players union are meeting in person today in New York to continue CBA negotiations. The meeting includes league leadership, team owners, and union leadership, with WNBPA executive committee members Kelsey Plum, Napheesa Collier, and Nneka Ogwumike attending. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: At this point, getting in the same room feels necessary. Sending proposals back and forth has not moved things far enough, especially with big gaps still remaining around revenue sharing. This is the first in-person meeting between the two sides since last fall’s playoffs, and it feels like an important step toward actually making progress. Fingers crossed!

3. Fever and Wings Feel the Young Star Movement 📲
According to a report from Zoomph, the Indiana Fever rank No. 6 in social media value across all major professional sports leagues, coming in at more than $87 million. The Dallas Wings saw the biggest year-over-year growth of any team, with a 324 percent jump from 2024 to 2025. (Zoompf)
WHY IT MATTERS: The WNBA’s young stars are already marketing powerhouses. Indiana’s ranking reflects the immediate impact of Caitlin Clark, while Dallas’ surge points to Paige Bueckers bringing a massive and highly engaged fanbase with her. Thanks in part to NIL, today’s rookies are not starting from scratch. They are arriving with audiences ready to follow them straight into the league.
