What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. Nneka Ogwumikeâs Final WNBA Season đŤĄ
Eleven-time All-Star Nneka Ogwumike will retire from the WNBA after the 2026 season, ending a 15-year career. Ogwumike will remain WNBPA president through the end-of-year elections and plans to play in the new Project B league when it launches in January. (Boardroom)
WHY IT MATTERS: Few players have made an impact on the WNBA in as many ways as Ogwumike. She was the No. 1 pick, Rookie of the Year, league MVP, a WNBA champion, and an 11-time All-Star. She also led the playersâ union through two CBA negotiations, helping shape the league off the court, too. When her WNBA career ends, she should be a clear first-ballot Hall of Famer.

2. Azzi Fudd Will Miss the Rest of the Season đŠš
Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd will miss the rest of the 2026 season as she undergoes an arthroscopic procedure to address soreness in her right knee. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: The timing is especially tough for Dallas. Fudd averaged 13.1 points and 1.7 steals per game, making an impact on both ends of the floor. The Wings sit No. 8 in the standings with eight games left and have a 4.5-game lead over Portland for the final playoff spot. That cushion helps, but Dallas has been a much different team without Fudd. The Wings are 19-11 with her in the lineup and just 1-5 without her.
đłď¸ Do you think Dallas will hold onto a playoff spot without Azzi Fudd?

3. Toronto Tempo Out, Indiana Fever Could Be In â
The Toronto Tempo were eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Washington on Wednesday night. They join the Connecticut Sun and Seattle Storm as the third team eliminated this season.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever can become the fourth team to clinch a playoff spot with a win over Dallas tonight at 8 PM ET on Prime. (Indiana Fever)
WHY IT MATTERS: Torontoâs 12-game losing streak has been a tough stretch, but there is still plenty to build on from its first season. Sandy Brondello is a championship coach, while Brittney Sykes, Marina Mabrey and Julie Allemand are all under contract through 2027. Rookie Kiki Rice and second-year player Aneesah Morrow give Toronto two young players to build around, and the Tempo should also have a good pick in a strong 2027 draft.
As for Indiana, the Fever are playing some of their best basketball right now. Theyâve won five straight and nine of their last 11 games. One more win tonight would officially punch their ticket to the playoffs.
