What to Know About Womenâs Basketball Today
1. Three Generations, One Competition â
The WNBA announced the teams for the first-ever Shooting Stars competition, a new All-Star Weekend event that pairs a WNBA legend, a current WNBA player, and a Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) standout.
Each team will have 70 seconds to score as many points as possible from seven spots around the floor, with the top two teams advancing to the championship round. The event will air alongside the 3-Point Contest on Friday at 8 PM ET on ESPN.
Team | Legend | Current Player |
|---|---|---|
Seattle | Lauren Jackson | Flauâjae Johnson |
Washington | Elena Delle Donne | Shakira Austin |
Minnesota | Rebekkah Brunson | Courtney Williams |
Dallas/Detroit | Deanna Nolan | Jessica Shepard |
The four Nike EYBL standouts are Jezelle "GG" Banks, Ryan Carter, Tatianna Griffin, and Morghan Reckley. Their team assignments will be revealed later. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is a fun new addition to All-Star Weekend because it brings together three generations of women's basketball in one competition. It replaces the Skills Challenge, giving fans a fresh format that's built around teamwork instead of individual events.

She's the first WNBA player to earn her own global premium edition cover, putting one of the league's most popular stars in front of basketball fans around the world.

3. TikTok and the WNBA Launch New Partnership đą
TikTok announced a new multi-year partnership with the WNBA and NBA that will bring more creator content and new ways for fans to engage with women's basketball across the platform. (NBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: TikTok has become one of the biggest places for women's basketball fans to connect online. According to the announcement, 64% of women turn to TikTok specifically for sports content. This partnership should make it even easier for fans to discover WNBA creators, highlights, and conversations while also introducing more people to the league.
