What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. The WNBA Is Back Today 🤩
After nearly three weeks off for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the WNBA regular season resumes today. There are just 10 days left in the regular season, and every team has four games remaining. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: All eight playoff spots are already clinched, but there’s still plenty to play for before the playoffs begin September 27. Minnesota leads the standings, with Golden State and Las Vegas close behind, while Atlanta and Indiana are fighting for the final top-four spot and home-court advantage. A lot can still change in these last 10 days.

2. Marina Mabrey’s Season Is Over ❤️🩹
The Toronto Tempo announced Wednesday that Marina Mabrey will miss the rest of the season with a right adductor injury. She won’t need surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: Toronto is already out of the playoff race, but it’s still a tough ending to Mabrey’s best WNBA season. She averaged a career-high 20.8 points in 32 games, along with 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds. She also scored 53 points against the Sparks on June 25, tying the WNBA single-game scoring record.
3. LSU Is Honoring Sylvia Fowles 🐯
Sylvia Fowles is getting a permanent place at LSU. The school announced Wednesday that a statue honoring the basketball legend will be installed outside the Maravich Center. (LSU Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is a well-deserved honor for one of LSU’s all-time greats. Fowles was a two-time All-American and helped the Tigers reach four straight Final Fours from 2005 through 2008. She went on to become a four-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the WNBA’s all-time greats. Her statue will join Seimone Augustus outside the Maravich Center.
