What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. ESPN Replaces Sunday Night Baseball with “Women’s Sports Sundays” 📺
ESPN is replacing its summer Sunday Night Baseball window with a brand-new primetime franchise called “Women’s Sports Sundays,” featuring top-tier WNBA and NWSL matchups. (Variety)
WHY IT MATTERS: Love to see this. This is one of the biggest programming bets we’ve seen on women’s sports from a major network. A weekly primetime window is a big deal. For those of us already into the league, it gives us a clear night to show up and the consistent exposure, with top tier production, we’ve been craving. And for anyone who hasn’t fully tapped in yet, this kind of exposure pushes the sport further into the mainstream.
🗳️ Will you be watching Women’s Sports Sundays?

2. Lynx to Host Nigerian National Team in Kansas City 🌍
The Minnesota Lynx will host the Nigerian Women’s National Team in a WNBA preseason game at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on April 27. (KCTV)
WHY IT MATTERS: It’s been more than 20 years since the WNBA last held a game in Kansas City. That alone makes this interesting. The league is exploring expansion opportunities, and preseason games like this can help test a market. Ownership of the NWSL’s KC Current has already expressed interest in bringing a WNBA team to the city. This feels like a real opportunity for Kansas City to show it’s ready.

3. South Carolina vs LSU Draws 1.7 Million Viewers 📈
Last Saturday’s South Carolina vs LSU matchup on ABC averaged 1.7 million viewers and peaked at 2.2 million. It’s the most-watched women’s college basketball game across all networks this season and ESPN’s fourth most-watched regular season women’s game ever. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: We’re not surprised. If you put women’s basketball on network TV in a primetime window, people watch. The audience is there when the exposure is there. And, fingers crossed, numbers like this make it even harder for networks to ignore.
