What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Four Power 4 Tournament Champions Are Official 🏆

Sunday brought the championship games for all four Power 4 conferences. Duke (ACC), UCLA (Big Ten), Texas (SEC), and West Virginia (Big 12) all cut down the nets after big wins. (USA Today)

WHY IT MATTERS: Winning the conference tournament comes with a huge reward: an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and a boost when the selection committee sets the bracket. While runners-up like Louisville, Iowa, South Carolina, and TCU are safely in the field, plenty of other teams are now waiting nervously for Selection Sunday on March 15 to see if they earned an at-large spot.

2. Wooden Award National Ballot Revealed ⭐

The race for the John R. Wooden Award just took its next step. The national ballot for the top player in college basketball has been revealed, featuring 15 standout names including Lauren Betts, Mikayla Blakes, Joyce Edwards, and Sarah Strong. (Yahoo Sports)

WHY IT MATTERS: The Wooden Award is one of the biggest individual honors in college basketball, given each year to the best player in the country. The All‑America teams and Top Five finalists will be revealed on March 31, with the winner announced April 10. With March Madness right around the corner, the biggest performances of the season may still be ahead.

3. Team USA Hosts Training Camp in Miami 🇺🇸

USA Basketball hosted a two-day training camp in Miami over the weekend ahead of this week’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico. The roster brought together young stars and veterans, including Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, and Kahleah Copper. (USA Basketball)

WHY IT MATTERS: The U.S. has already qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, but this week’s five-game tournament still gives this group valuable time to build chemistry. It will also be the first competition for new head coach Kara Lawson, giving her a chance to get her feet wet while seeing how this roster fits together on the international stage.
