What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Diana Taurasi Headlines the 2027 Hall of Fame Class 🏆
The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame announced its six-member Class of 2027, led by WNBA all-time scoring leader Diana Taurasi. She'll be joined by Sandy Brondello, Mike Thibault, Dee Kantner, Molly Bolin Kazmer, and Dr. Judith Holland. (WBHOF)
WHY IT MATTERS: This Hall of Fame is dedicated entirely to women's basketball, making induction one of the sport's highest honors. Each member of this class has helped shape the game, whether through playing, coaching, officiating, or opening doors for others. The induction ceremony will take place in June 2027.
2. Bueckers & McBride Take WNBA Community Awards 👏
True leadership doesn’t stop off the court. Paige Bueckers received the WNBA's 2026 Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award and Kayla McBride was honored with the 2026 Seasonlong WNBA Cares Community Assist Award this week.

WHY IT MATTERS: Fans know both players as leaders on the court, but they are also making a difference away from basketball. Bueckers refurbished a court in her hometown and donated to multiple nonprofits helping families facing food insecurity and educational needs. Meanwhile, McBride mentored middle-school girls and supported patients at the Mayo Clinic. These awards recognize players who are going the extra mile to serve others.
3. Michigan Takes Down No. 2 UConn in Early Upset 👀
This is going to be fun. The first top-five matchup of the college season delivered an upset as No. 5 Michigan beat No. 2 UConn 77-66. (Maize N Brew)
WHY IT MATTERS: The Wolverines led by six at halftime, and after a back-and-forth game, they pulled away late in the fourth quarter. This is an early statement win for Michigan against one of the country's top teams. This result could also be a preview of the tough competition among the best teams. It’s still early, but could this be one of the most competitive seasons yet?
🗳️ Do you think this will be one of the most competitive college seasons in a while?
