What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. The Chicago Sky Are Exceeding Expectations 👀
Didn’t see this coming. A month ago, the Chicago Sky looked like a team headed toward another difficult season. Now, they’re 3-1 with big wins over the Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries. Suddenly, they look like one of the tougher teams in the league. (SB Nation)
WHY IT MATTERS: This early turnaround has been surprising. After tying for last place in 2025 and making the controversial Angel Reese trade, there were questions about where the franchise was headed. Now, Chicago looks confident and competitive.
The biggest question now is the status of Rickea Jackson, who was averaging 18 points per game before her injury this past weekend. If she misses extended time, it could change the trajectory of this hot start.
🗳️ Are the Chicago Sky a real contender right now?

2. Oklahoma State Has the No. 1 Portal Class 🤠
Despite losing nearly their entire roster this off season, Oklahoma State looks to be a competitor for next year, roping in the No. 1 ranked portal class that includes top transfers Audi Crooks and Liv McGill. (Sports Illustrated)
WHY IT MATTERS: Most programs take a step back after losing most of their roster. Instead, Oklahoma State has gotten stronger. Head coach Jacie Hoyt landed five top 100 ranked transfers, with Crooks and McGill at No. 1 and No. 2, respectfully. In this age of college sports, the transfer portal can reshape a program quickly. We’ll see just how quickly when the Cowgirls kick off their season in November.

3. Legendary Virginia High School Coach Retires 🏀
Princess Anne High School coach Darnell Dozier announced his retirement last week after 31 seasons, 793 wins, and 16 Virginia state championships. (Yahoo Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: With Dozier stepping away, girls basketball in Virginia suddenly feels much more open. Dozier’s teams won 12 titles over the last 13 seasons, making him one of the most dominant high school coaches in Virginia history. He built one of the most respected girls programs in the country and coached players who went on to thrive in college and the WNBA, including Aziaha James and Elizabeth Williams.
