1. Alyssa Thomas Retakes WNBA Single-Season Assist Record đ
AT is back on top. In Phoenixâs loss to Connecticut over the weekend, Alyssa Thomas dished her 342nd assist of the season to reclaim the WNBA single-season record. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: Thomas first set the single-season assist mark in 2023 with 316 assists, only for Caitlin Clark to top it last year with 337. Now AT has raised the bar once again.
Sheâs also 7th all-time with over 1,800 career assists, remarkable considering sheâs doing it as a forward. She continues to redefine whatâs possible at her position as the only non-guard in the leagueâs career top 10 for assists.
2. Valkyriesâ âHomeâ Playoff Game Wonât Be at Home đ
The Golden State Valkyries are the first WNBA expansion team to clinch a playoff berth in its first season, but their first-ever home playoff game wonât tip off at Chase Center. Instead, itâll be played 48 miles south at San Joseâs SAP Center, due to a scheduling conflict. (CBS News)
WHY IT MATTERS: The clash comes from an international tennis tournament booked back in 2023, before the WNBA awarded the Bay Area its expansion team. However, this is not a one-off problemâFront Office Sports reports that recent years have seen the Mystics, Mercury, and Sparks all bumped from their home floors in the postseason.
The Valkyries broke the all-time WNBA attendance record with 397,408 total fans at home games this season, selling out every game. Now, theyâll try to bottle that same energy in San Jose.
3. Fever Clinch Back-to Back Playoff Berths đ
With Sundayâs win over the Mystics, the Indiana Fever locked up a playoff spot for the second straight year. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: The Fever have battled through five season-ending injuries and still found a way to get into the playoffs. This is the first time theyâve reached the postseason in consecutive years since 2015â16. Theyâve already set a new franchise record for most wins in a season (23) and, at minimum, will enter as the No. 7 seed. A gritty performance for a team that dealt with constant injuries.
