What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Allisha Gray Is Making a Supermax-Level Case 💎

Allisha Gray just keeps getting better. Now a nine-year WNBA vet, the 31-year-old is thriving across every stage she steps onto. She’s been one of Unrivaled’s most consistent performers with Mist BC, led Team USA to a 3x3 AmeriCup gold medal while earning MVP honors in November, and is coming off three strong seasons in Atlanta. As free agency approaches, it’s hard not to see a big payday coming.

WHY IT MATTERS: Atlanta signed Gray to a three-year, $494,400 deal in 2023, and that looks like a bargain now. Since then, she’s become a three-time All-Star, earned 2025 All-WNBA First Team honors, won the 2024 Athletes Unlimited championship, and currently sits as the No. 4 scorer in Unrivaled. Gray is showing that her best basketball might still be ahead of her, and that puts her in line for a serious raise this offseason.

2. Syracuse Is Starting to Turn Heads 👀

Syracuse is quietly putting together a really strong season. The Orange picked up four votes in Monday’s AP Poll, their first of the year, after stacking a few impressive wins and forcing people to start paying attention. (SB Nation)

WHY IT MATTERS: This team might be a real March sleeper. Syracuse is 16–3 overall and 6–2 in the ACC, coming off back-to-back wins over Stanford and Cal. With only two ACC teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25, the door is wide open. The Orange will get a chance to prove it belongs when it hosts No. 8 Louisville on February 8.

3. Angel Reese Keeps Expanding Her Off-Court Game 🎬

From “Bayou Barbie” to “Thespian Barbie”, Angel Reese is adding another credit to her off-court portfolio. The WNBA star is set to appear in Season 2 of the Netflix series The Hunting Wives, marking her third film / television role in the past year. (E News)

WHY IT MATTERS: Reese continues to show how much reach today’s women’s basketball stars can have. Her growing presence in film and television speaks to the marketability and cultural pull of today’s players. It’ll be interesting to see just how much of her future WNBA off-seasons include Hollywood alongside hoops.
