What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. A Flight Delay Changes the Schedule ✈️
Didn’t have this on my bingo card this week. Thursday night's Liberty-Wings game was postponed after New York's charter flight experienced a mechanical issue that left the team on the airport tarmac for roughly 10 hours. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, July 20. (CBS Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: Postponements are very rare, especially since the WNBA switched to charter flights. The new date creates a tough schedule for Dallas, which will now play three games in four days while battling New York in the middle of the standings. It also raises an interesting question for future seasons. As the league adds more games, finding room to reschedule unexpected postponements could become much more difficult.
🗳️ How much do you think the schedule change will hurt Dallas?

2. A Gamecock Steps Away ❤️🩹
South Carolina guard Maddy McDaniel is stepping away from the Gamecock program to focus on her mental health. (USA Today)
WHY IT MATTERS: The junior averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 assists last season and was expected to compete for the Gamecocks' starting point guard position. It's unclear how long McDaniel will be away, making this a significant development for South Carolina and their backcourt. It's also a potential reflection of the pressure many student-athletes face at the highest levels of college basketball, especially at Power 4 schools with heavy media exposure, and the importance of giving players the space to prioritize their well-being.

3. Texas Adds Another Top Recruit 🤘
Texas did indeed hook ‘em. Texas landed a big commit this week as Class of 2027 standout Jayla Forbes announced she'll play for the Longhorns. Forbes is ranked the No. 5 center and No. 23 overall player in the class by 247Sports. (Longhorns Wire)
WHY IT MATTERS: Texas has established itself as one of the nation's top programs over the past few seasons, and recruiting wins like this are a big reason why. Landing one of the top players in the 2027 class gives the Longhorns another building block as they look to build on the momentum they already have.
