What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Team USA Reveals 18-Player Camp Roster 🇺🇸
The FIBA 2026 World Cup is just around the corner, and Team USA is getting serious. USA Basketball announced its 18-player roster for next month’s senior national team training camp. The lineup features proven vets, rising stars, and 10 first-time invitees. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: This camp is the first major evaluation window under Sue Bird, the program’s new managing director. She’ll begin shaping the squad that will chase a fifth straight FIBA World Cup gold in 2026. With established stars training alongside big‑name newcomers like Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, this camp is where the next Team USA core will begin to take shape.
Some fans immediately noticed big names missing, like A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart. Worry not! It’s common for superstars to skip non-Olympic FIBA cycles. This camp gives younger players a real chance to make an impression and potentially position themselves for the 2028 Olympic roster.

2. Lady Vols Become First Program to Hit 1,500 Wins 🧡
The Tennessee Lady Vols just became the first NCAA program in history — men’s or women’s — to reach 1,500 all-time wins. (WATE)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is Pat Summitt’s legacy carrying on in real time. Summitt earned 1,098 of those wins during her 38 years leading the Lady Vols. Head coaches who followed, Holly Warlick and Kellie Harper, kept the program’s culture alive with winning seasons and postseason appearances in each of their years coached. Now it’s on second year head coach Kim Caldwell to keep the momentum, and early signs show she’s ready to keep that tradition moving forward.

3. Kelsey Mitchell Signs With Project B ✍️
Project B just made a blockbuster move, announcing that Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell has joined as its latest signee. (Project B)
WHY IT MATTERS: Mitchell is the most interesting addition yet. Earlier signings ranged from late‑career All-Stars to young international standouts still proving themselves. Mitchell is different: a 3x All-Star, one of the league’s most dynamic scorers today, and a player with a large, passionate fan base. And, she only turned 30 a couple of weeks ago. Her involvement signals that Project B is attracting not just names, but impact players in their prime.
